When the word is out that this highest-lying distillery in Japan plans to release yet another masterpiece, Whisky lovers start camping in front of their local liquor stores (or, arguably more comfortable, their online counterparts). Situated in Nagano at an elevation of over 2,600 feet, the Mars Shinshu Distillery is in an ideal place for Whisky production and the results speak for themselves.

This 2021 edition is a Single Malt Whisky was distilled and matured in Nagano in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry American oak sitting in the shadow of Mt. Komagatake—the largest peak in the Kiso Mountain Range. Coming from such a breath-taking location, the Whisky inside should be equally impressive. And it really is! Gentle fruitiness, soft floral notes, vanilla, milk chocolate, sweet oranges, green melon... all that in a well-balanced and elegant Whisky you will not soon forget.
