Sunshine Reserve American Whiskey
A new American that defies convention.
Sunshine Reserve American Whiskey has one product. You guessed it… American Whiskey. Born and bred in New York, this is their first product and we’re happy to introduce you to their quirky — but tasty — signature offering.
Sunshine Reserve American Whiskey is super hard to define because they do a lot of things differently. First off, the primary grain is oats. The rest of the mash bill includes rye, spelt, and malted barley. The oats bring a soft, floral note. The Rye adds a tab bit of spice, and malted barley is the perfect grain to kick-start your fermentation. But spelt is also rather rare — which is a shame because it brings a toasted coffee bean flavor on the back palate that is a great complement to the oats.
And instead of flame, they toast their oak aging barrels in a special convection oven. And you know what? We can taste the difference that makes. The warm vanilla makes us think of waffle cones. And this odd little dram is not chill filtered. And we can taste that too. So we may not know exactly how to classify Sunshine Reserve American Whiskey, but we definitely recommend you try it for yourself.
