Quirky supreme Rum from India.
 
The Mohan Meakin company has a meandering history going back to the 19th century, when two British brewers tried to bring good beer to India. Eventually their enterprise evolved into  a multi-faceted firm, also producing Spirits. Their Rum selection includes five different Old Monk expressions. This vanilla-forward iconic vatted dark rum is on the market since 1954 and you'd be hard-pressed to find a commercial for it. It used to be the biggest Indian made foreign Liquor, and it's supposed to be created by the legendary Indian distiller Ved Rattan Mohan. Their most popular Rum is the 7YO XXX Rum, but the quirkiest one is definitely the Supreme.
 
It comes in a monk-shaped bottle with a detachable head that hides the cork. It's a molasses distilled Rum with no age statement, although it is said to be matured for at least 12 years in oak casks in the tropical environment of India. Despite the lack of ads, Old Monk Supreme Rum is the second best-selling dark Rum in the world. It's an excellent choice both for casual sipping or mixing it in a cocktail.
