Old Forrester has about as much tradition as you can get in a Bourbon. It is a single brand of Bourbon that has been continuously available for 145 years — most of that time from the same family of craftsmen at the same distillery. Interestingly, it was the first Bourbon to be available exclusively in sealed glass bottles. There was a lot of nefarious re-bottling and dilution going on and this was a way to ensure quality and integrity. Today it is owned by Brown-Forman, available in eight different varieties and is a sister Bourbon to Woodford Reserve.

The annual Birthday Bourbon release has become a fun and very tasty tradition. Each year since 2002 the distillery has released a special, limited edition Bourbon to celebrate the birthday of the distillery founder — George Garvin Brown — on September 2. Each one is a gem.

2020 marks the 150th year of the distillery George founded, so they had to do something special. Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2020 is pulled from ninety-five, hand-selected barrels that had aged for a full decade. The mash bill is classic Forrester — 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. And this gorgeous dram is delivered at 49% ABV.

Forbes proclaimed that "This Could Be the Best New Bourbon Release of 2020," and they could be right.
