Bill and Margie Samuels experimented with different flavoring grains and finally changed the traditional rye grain for a more squishy, red winter wheat. This swap gave Maker’s Mark Bourbon its unique subtle sweetness. What made their bottles so special was the signature red wax topper on the top, a homemade invention by Margie. The brand is still family-owned and operated, as it has passed from father to son to grandson with the words of wisdom that stuck throughout generations—“Don’t screw up the whisky.”

The BRT-02 Series is BRT-01’s cooler older brother, as its flavor is influenced by the slightly chiller bottom of the rickhouse. It uses French oak staves to bring up the cheeky tastes developed over years of chillin’ out at the lower part of the warehouse. Being on the bottom has surprising benefits, as it adds darker and heavier characteristics of forest fruit and gourmet chocolate. This Wood Finishing BRT-02 series holds an impressive 54.7% ABV and embodies an array of flavors, from toasted nuts to premium cacao chocolate.
